Bundesliga Odds

The German Bundesliga is one of the most popular national championships in the world. And how wouldn’t it be when each game played is a spectacle of its own. We don’t need to tell you about the quality of German football. The national team of this country is a four-time World Cup winner and a three-time European champ.

As for the league itself, it is widely regarded as one of the most interesting to watch, due to high-efficiency, and the atmosphere during the games. It was founded in this form in 1963, as a national championship of West Germany. It would develop and grow into one of the best competitions in the world, with its clubs playing a major role on the international stage.

Bundesliga Format

Bundesliga consists of 18 teams who play 34 games during the season. Each win is worth three points, and a draw one. There is a reason why this championship stands above others when it comes to efficiency. In case two teams have the same number of points, the advantage is on the side of the one with a better goal difference. If that is the same, the next criteria is the number of goals scored, and only after comes head-to-head record.

The top four teams would qualify for the Champions League, the fifth one for the Europa League, and the sixth goes to the qualifications for that competition.

Two last-placed teams are relegated, while the 16th seed goes to the playoffs with the third team from Bundesliga 2. Whoever comes out as a better side in a two-match contest earns the spot in the top tier for the next season.

Bundesliga’s Impact on European Football

We don’t need to remind you that Bayern Munich won five Europan titles and that besides the Bavarians, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger also reached the continental throne. But not many people know that several other clubs managed to win silverware in international competitions. Borussia Mönchengladbach won the UEFA Cup twice, Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen once, same as Werder Bremen with the Cup Winners’ Cup.

So, after hearing all this, even the most die-hard opponent of German football will take a bow.

According to statistical researches, the Bundesliga is the competition with the highest average attendance in Europe, and with the highest percentage of sold seats. For example, throughout the recent decade, Borussia Dortmund would constantly sell more than 99% of their available tickets for every domestic game.

Betting on Bundesliga

After this data, it is not odd to have a massive interest in betting on this competition. There isn’t a football punter who didn’t at least once in his life bet on Bundesliga match. Therefore, we will say a few words about that in the upcoming paragraph.

As with all the other competitions and matches, Bundesliga offers common betting markets.

The most popular when it comes to individual matches, are

  • Full-Time Result
  • Total Goals Over/Under
  • Asian Handicap

When talking about outright bets, Bundesliga offers a variety of options, but we will choose three most interesting to mention.

  • Winner
  • Top Goalscorer
  • Relegation

However, in recent years one other market appeared which is appealing to the punters. Due to  Bayern Munich’s domination, the bookmakers are offering to bet on the final order in the standings without the Bavarians. And more and more people are going for that. Although it is very interesting and some might say unpredictable, the profits, in this case, are very nice.

Tips for Betting on Bundesliga

There are several helpful pieces of information when it comes to betting on Bundesliga. We will start our expose with efficiency.

The style of football in Germany is highly offensive-minded. For years it has been one of the most efficient leagues among the top European competitions, and it seems that there is no intention of changing that trademark.

Probably the best pitches in the world, mixed with the fantastic atmosphere at the stadiums, are inspirational for the players who often provide exciting performances. All that affects efficiency.

Unlike some other competitions, over 1.5 goals in the first halftime are something usual in Bundesliga, for example. Over 2.5 for the entire 90 minutes also. Remember this data.

Now about the outright bets you need to know that Bayern Munich dominates German football, and not only in recent years but from the early years. They’ve won 28 titles in 56 editions, and they are coming into every new season as the No.1 favorites. Borussia Dortmund is often behind them, and it seems that the next powerhouse will be Red Bull Leipzig, so keep an eye on them.

Top goalscorer race is very interesting, but the winners are predominantly from Bayern, less from Dortmund. These two sides are very ruthless at home, and they often demolish opponents, allowing their strikers to improve statistics. One more info – seven times over the past ten years, the winner of this award had to score 25 or more goals.

When it comes to the relegation playoffs, it was only in the last season that Union Berlin managed to snap a streak of six matchups in which the team from Bundesliga won and stayed in the top tier of German football. But even here, Union didn’t win a single game, but advanced due to away goal after two draws.

Bundesliga Champions

Bayern Munich is by far the most successful club in this category. The Bavarians have 29 titles, when looking at all the championships, including the ones at the start of the 20th century. It is interesting that they won all but one since 1969, and ever since they are the dominant force in German football. Many are claiming that they are privileged, but to be honest, we won’t go into that. FC Nuremberg has 9 titles, most of them before the establishment of Bundesliga as we know it today. Borussia Dortmund has one fewer, Schalke 04 won the title 7 times, Hamburger 6, Borussia Monchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart 5, Werder Bremen and 1. FC Kaiserslautern 4.

Once mentioning all this, the first-ever champion of Germany, from the period before Bundesliga was Lokomotiva Leipzig, in 1903.

In the last 10 seasons, Bayern took eight titles, all of them in a row, while Borussia won two consecutive in 2011 and 2012.
