Match Preview
The standout female player at Roland Garros to this point will be looking to book her spot in a third French Open final on Thursday. Iga Swiatek was the odds-on favorite to win the Grand Slam before the tournament got underway, and she has done little to this point to worry those that backed her at the start of the French Open.
The three-time Grand Slam winner’s record at Roland Garros speaks for itself, as she boasts a 91% win rate on the clay in Paris. She is yet to drop a set to this point, and has spent minimal time on the court. She was excellent in Wednesday’s last eight clash against Coco Gauff, smoothly taking the second set after battling for a 6-4 advantage in the first.

I’ll start by saying that I am a huge fan of Beatriz Haddad Maia, and have previously flagged her up for Grand Slam glory in the past. However, this showing on the clay was pretty unexpected. The Brazilian has won some marathon matches on her way to this point, beating opponents in the second, third, fourth, and quarterfinal rounds in three sets.
Maia showed her character in the previous round, as she won a crucial tie break in the second set against Ons Jabeur to force a deciding set. The win saw her reach the semi-final stage of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, and it was also the first time that a Brazilian has reached the last four at Roland Garros in the Open Era.
French Open Predictions
Maia won the only previous match between the two in 2022, but that came on the hard court in Toronto. On the clay, it is a completely different story. We struggle to overlook Swiatek’s dominance on this surface, and there appears to be very little stopping the Pole from winning a third French Open title this year.
