Match Preview
It has been an excellent year on court to this point for American star Madison Keys, and she will be aiming to continue her record in Grand Slam events following her win at the Australian Open this summer. However, the 30-year-old is yet to better her appearance at SW19 in 2023 after reaching the quarterfinals for the second time.
But, she has successfully reached the last eight in both majors so far this calendar year. But, Keys’ game may not be suited to the grass courts, and that was evident once again earlier this month after suffering an early exit at the Grass Court Championships Berlin.

Elena-Gabriel Ruse should come into the major in positive form after reaching the final at the recent Libema Open. The 27-year-old is a one-time winner on the WTA Tour, and she has already achieved career-best runs at the Australian and French Opens this calendar year.
The Romanian will be playing in the first round at Wimbledon for the fifth time in her career this year, but she is yet to progress through to the second round. But, based on her recent form, she should have the quality to pose questions to her talented American rival.
Head-to-Head Record
Keys and Ruse will collide for the first time in a competitive match in the first round at Wimbledon.
Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs. Madison Keys Picks
I don’t feel Keys’ game is as suited to the grass surface as it is to other terrains. Therefore, we don’t expect her to win Wimbledon this year. But, she should still have enough quality to overcome a challenging rival in the first round.
