Event Preview
The official opening race of the NASCAR 2024 Cup Series will take place this weekend, as the prestigious Daytona 500 is staged in Florida. This is the race that all the drivers in the paddock look to win, as it would ensure that their name is immortalized forever. This race has been staged annually since 1959, and it is one of two races to be staged at Daytona International Speedway.
It is the most important race on the NASCAR schedule, as it holds the biggest purse for drivers. Richard Petty remains the most successful driver in the history of the race, having landed seven victories between 1964 and 1981. Petty Enterprises is the most successful team in the history of the race, with nine wins between 1959 and 1981.

Hendrick Motorsports has been the most successful team in recent history, having won the race on four occasions since 2000. However, Joe Gibbs Racing has an excellent recent record after winning three editions of the Daytona 500 since 2016. The former once again holds strong claims, with Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott among their leading contenders.
However, Denny Hamlin cruised to victory in the previous race, and comes into the weekend as the reigning Cup Series Champion. The Joe Gibbs racer has an excellent record in the race, having claimed three victories since 2015. But, there could be value in the betting based on the fact that there have been shock winners in each of the last two editions.
