Pick rationale

Analysis & key factors

  • Texas handled business against Rice, winning by a score of 37-10.
  • Alabama defeated Middle Tennessee 56-7, completely dominating.
  • These two teams last met on January 7, 2010, in a game Alabama won 37-21.

Week 2 of the college football season is upon us. Let’s preview the upcoming Texas vs Alabama game.

How to Watch

  • ESPN

Preview

Texas had no trouble getting past Rice in the opening week, improving to 1-0 on the season. That being said, they also failed to cover the spread, which could indicate they aren’t as good as expected. That will quickly be proven as true or false in Week 2, with Alabama on the docket. If the Longhorns can defeat the Crimson Tide on the road, they’ll cement themselves as a top CFP contender. The offense will be tested.

Alabama dominated Middle Tennessee as expected, winning 56-7. Sophomore QB Jalen Milroe proved to be a solid dual threat replacement for Bryce Young. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 194 yards and 3 TDs, while also rushing for 48 yards and 2 TDs. Milroe will face a much tougher test against Texas, but a win here could catapult his confidence and the Crimson Tide’s CFP hopes. The defense will also be key.

Prediction

This is the featured game of the week, with two top-11 teams facing off. It’s interesting to see the spread fall at around a touchdown. While it’s true that Alabama has some inexperience due to roster turnover, they usually dominate the opposition at home. Texas opens the season ranked high often, but hasn’t seen as much results. I see the Crimson Tide controlling this game, and getting a comfortable victory at home.
