NCAAF Betting Odds, Explained

College Football Vegas odds are centered around three core markets: Moneyline, Point Spread, and Over/Under (Totals). These lines are displayed using the American odds format, with plus (+) and minus (–) symbols indicating underdogs and favorites respectively.

How Do American Odds Work?

With American odds:

  • A minus (-) sign (e.g. -150) indicates the favorite. The number shows how much you need to bet to win $100.
  • A plus (+) sign (e.g. +150) represents the underdog. The number shows how much you win on a $100 bet.

Example Scenarios:

  • Bet $150 on a -150 favorite → return = $250 ($150 stake + $100 profit)
  • Bet $100 on a +150 underdog → return = $250 ($100 stake + $150 profit)

NCAAF Moneyline Betting

Moneyline betting in college football is simple — just pick which team will win the game.

How does College Football Moneyline work?

Most games will have a favorite and an underdog. Betting on a heavy favorite usually offers lower returns, while backing an underdog carries more risk but offers a better payout.

Example:

  • In the 2022 National Championship, Georgia were -145 favorites. A $100 wager would return $168.97.

Does Moneyline include overtime in College Football?

Yes — unless explicitly stated otherwise by the sportsbook, moneyline bets include overtime. If your team wins in OT, your bet still cashes.

NCAAF Spread Betting

Spread betting is the most popular way to wager on college football games. It creates a level playing field by assigning a point handicap to the favorite.

What Does the Spread Mean in NCAAF Betting?

The spread represents how many points the favorite is expected to win by.

Example:

Georgia -2.5 vs TCU

  • Bet on Georgia: must win by 3+ points
  • Bet on TCU: wins if they win outright or lose by 2 or fewer

In the 2022 title game, Georgia won 33–18 and covered the 2.5-point spread.

The spread usually includes a half-point “hook” (e.g. 2.5) to prevent a push.

Can the Spread Total Change?

Yes. Spread lines can move due to public betting trends, injury updates, weather conditions, or sharp action. Your wager locks in the line at the time you place it.

NCAAF Over/Under Betting

Over/Under betting (also called Totals) focuses on how many points will be scored in a game — regardless of the outcome.

How Does Over/Under Work in NCAAF Betting?

The sportsbook sets a projected point total (e.g. 48.5), and you bet whether the actual combined score will be over or under that number.

Example:

  • Bet the over → 49 or more points scored
  • Bet the under → 48 or fewer points scored

Can the Over/Under Total Change in NCAAF Betting?

Yes — just like spreads, totals can shift based on betting action, injury news, or external conditions like weather.

Does the Over/Under in NCAAF Betting Include Overtime?

Usually yes. Unless a sportsbook explicitly states otherwise, totals include overtime, which increases the chances of hitting the over due to additional scoring time.
