Preview
UNLV defeated Bryant in their opener without much issue. It was the expected win against an FCS squad. The Rebels have some more reasonable matchups coming up with Vanderbilt and UTEP on the docket in Weeks 3 and 4. Unfortunately, they’ll have no time to ease in to tougher opponents with a trip to #2 Michigan up first. UNLV will need significantly better quarterback play to have a shot of winning this game.

Michigan defeated East Carolina in Week 1, 30-3. As we projected, the Wolverines were unable to cover a very large spread against a pretty decent Pirates team. That being said, they still won with confidence, and are set up to keep winning. Michigan’s next three games come against UNLV, Bowling Green, and Rutgers. They don’t face a ranked team until mid-November. That also leaves them no margin for error.
Prediction
These early non-conference games often feature some lopsided matchups, and this is likely another one of them. No fault to UNLV, but Michigan is just playing at a higher level than most teams right now. I think the Rebels have a good chance of making a bowl game this season, and should be able to at least reach the end zone once against the Wolverines. I’ll take Michigan to win it, but once again barely miss covering.
