Preview

Alabama looked much better in their Week 4 win over Ole Miss, after losing to Texas in Week 2 and struggling to score against USF in Week 3. They finally got some consistent QB play, with Jalen Milroe completing 17 of 21 passes for 225 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. If Milroe improves each week, the Crimson Tide could ride their capable defense right back into CFP contention. They can’t afford any more losses though.

Mississippi State lost to South Carolina last week, dropping to 2-2 on the season and 0-2 in SEC play. They had a much better offensive showing against the Gamecocks then the previous week, but their defense still struggled quite a bit. The Bulldogs have now given up 78 points over the last two weeks, and need to quickly find a fix with Alabama coming to town. This could be a long week for Mississippi State.

Prediction

Alabama got back on track last week against Ole Miss and should have an even easier time against a subpar Mississippi State team. That being said, the Crimson Tide can’t overlook any SEC opponents, especially on the road. Alabama’s struggling offense going up against Mississippi State’s struggling defense will be interesting, but the key here is Alabama’s defense. I see the Crimson Tide winning it.
