Pick rationale

Analysis & key factors

  • Tennessee defeated Austin Peay in Week 2, winning by a score of 30-13.
  • Florida surged past McNeese, 49-7, earning their first win of the season.
  • These two teams last met on September 24, 2022, in a game Tennessee won 38-33.

Week 3 of the college football season is upon us. Let’s preview the upcoming Tennessee vs Florida game.

Preview

Tennessee got another win in Week 2, but didn’t look all that impressive. They entered their game against Austin Peay as 48-point favorites, but found themselves tied 6-6 as halftime approached. The Volunteers went on to win by 17 points but the game raised some major concerns for an offense that saw its QB and top two WRs head to the NFL over the offseason. They need to rebound against a struggling Florida team.

Florida had no trouble in their FCS matchup, winning confidently in an attempt to put their loss to Utah behind them. The Gators will face a good test on offense this week, drawing a Tennessee defense that won’t be quite as tough as Utah’s, but will certainly be an upgrade from McNeese. If Florida can produce on offense in this game, a bowl may still be reachable. If they lose badly at home, it’ll be a long season.

Prediction

This is another matchup that’ll provide some clarity to the level of two teams with vastly different rosters this season as last. Both starting QBs from last season, Hendon Hooker and Anthony Richardson, have moved on the NFL, creating a need for each team to prove themselves. I’m more sold on Tennessee’s potential this year than Florida’s, and see them winning this game and covering the spread on the road.
