Preview
Kansas improved to 4-0 with their win over BYU last week. They’ve looked reminiscent of last year’s team, which started out 5-0 and rose to #19 in the rankings. Unfortunately, QB Jalon Daniels suffered an injury last year, and the Jayhawks went on to go 1-7 in their final 8 games. That being said, Daniels is healthy again this season and Kansas has taken huge steps forward as a program. This week’s game is massive.
Texas had no trouble against Baylor last week, continuing to look like one of the best teams in college football. In head coach Steve Sarkisian’s 3rd season, the Longhorns have already notched a road win against Alabama. They can further build out their resume this week with a win over #24 Kansas, and also have a matchup with Oklahoma looming next week. Texas is playing at elite levels on both sides of the ball.
Prediction
The Longhorns enter this game as comfortable favorites, expected to control the pace against Kansas. I tend to agree with that assumption, though Texas needs to avoid allowing this game to turn into a trap game. It may be hard to consider it a trap with the Jayhawks being ranked, but next week’s game against Oklahoma could cross their minds. Ultimately, I don’t think that’ll be enough to keep Texas from winning it.
