Preview

New Mexico had a rough go of it over the past several seasons. Back in 2016, the Lobos won the New Mexico Bowl, finishing the year at 9-4. Since then, things have not been kind to them. From 2017 to present, the Lobos have gone just 15-52 (.224). They failed to win four games in any of those seasons. New Mexico needs a complete turnaround before conversations of relegation to the FCS Big Sky start.

Texas A&M had very high expectations heading into last season. After claiming one of the most incredible defensive recruiting classes in history, the Aggies opened the year ranked #6. Unfortunately, that level of top recruits didn’t translate to success, and they wound up missing a bowl game and going just 5-7. With some experience now under their belts, Texas A&M should get closer to last year’s expectation in 2023-24.

Prediction

There is pretty much no scenario where New Mexico ends up winning this game in my mind. Their best record in the past 6 seasons is 3-9, and they will be completely outmatched against the Aggies. That being said, covering the spread is a different story. While I don’t expect the Lobos to score much at all, their defense could still keep an inexperienced Texas A&M under 38 points. I’ll take the Lobos to cover.
