Preview
Ole Miss surged past Georgia Tech last week, improving to 3-0 on the season. They had little trouble with their non-conference slate, but start out tough in SEC play with a road game against Alabama. The Rebels have a unique opportunity to pull off the upset this year against an Alabama team that has not looked too great so far. They’ll rely on the rushing game once again, after racking up 299 yards against Georgia Tech.
Alabama struggled to get it going on offense against USF, but still won thanks to an impressive game by the defense. The Crimson Tide are going to have to rely on their defense a lot this season, with the offense taking a while to find their footing in the post-Bryce Young era. Alabama isn’t out of playoff contention yet, but any more losses will seal the deal. They need to prove what they can do in this game.
Prediction
It’s difficult to pick against Alabama in the Nick Saban era, especially at home. That being said, they are more vulnerable this year than they have been in a long time. It’s also been a while since Alabama was the clear #1 team, but they should still be competitive. Ole Miss will likely keep this game pretty close, but I’m not sure if their running game can overpower Alabama’s defensive line. I’ll take Bama to win but not cover.
