Preview
Notre Dame came up short in their matchup against Ohio State on Saturday. Despite having their best QB play in years, the Fighting Irish still struggled against an elite defense. It took them until late in the 3rd quarter to score, eventually losing 17-14. That being said, Notre Dame is fortunate to have lost by just 3 points. Winning out from here could still earn them a CFP spot, but one more loss would eliminate them.
Duke had no trouble defeating UConn, improving to 4-0 on the season. The Blue Devils already stunned Clemson in the opener, and now have a chance to play spoiler against Notre Dame. If Duke wins this game they will rise close to the Top 10, and will be in CFP contention. This is the highest stakes Wallace Wade Stadium has seen in a while. QB Riley Leonard has been sensational this season, and will aim to keep it up.
Prediction
The college football world would be in chaos if Duke wins this game and becomes a legit CFP contender. It’s more possible than many people may think, especially at home. That being said, Duke’s roster isn’t as complete as Notre Dame’s on a variety of levels. If the Fighting Irish had won last week, I could have seen them losing here due to lack of focus. But after last week, they’ll be playing hungry. I’m taking Notre Dame.
