Game Preview

The Chelsea managerial merry-go-round has settled on Frank Lampard. The Blues’ legend taking charge for a second time, on an interim basis. There was no new manager bounce on display here though, Lampard’s side was lackluster in front of the goal and outplayed in all areas of the pitch. Matheus Nunes scored the only goal of the game. A fierce strike from a tight angle flew past goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s right hand. Lampard had restored Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling to the starting line-up but neither man made much impact on the game.

Brighton can feel hard done by to come away from their game against Tottenham without even a point. There were three huge decisions made by VAR in the game, and only one of them was correct – a handball given against Alexis Mac Allister leading to a goal. Brighton had another wrongly ruled out for the same offense, and a clear penalty was not given late on. By the time the penalty incident occurred, neither side had a manager in the dugout following a fracas. Brighton was by far the better side in this match and the post-game apologies from officials will be of little comfort.

Prediction

Chelsea head into this game on the back of a tough Champions League fixture vs Real Madrid. A fresher Brighton side should capitalize on some tired Chelsea legs and pile on the misery for Lampard here.
